Welcome to Civic Dance Center!

Thanks for visiting our website!  We have been in business 15 years, and how exciting it has been to meet new people and see old faces!  Civic Dance Center welcomes everyone ages 3 through adult to come and try out our variety of offered classes. Our dance studio is located on Central Avenue in Portage, Indiana, teaching students from the surrounding Northwest Indiana communities of Portage, Hobart, Lake Station, Chesterton, South Haven, and Valparaiso.

Whether you want to dance for recreational purposes or have dreams of being a professional dancer, at Civic Dance Center we try to differentiate our instruction to accommodate each student’s individual needs, encouraging each student to reach his or her fullest potential.  We focus on the technical terminology of dance vocabulary and proper dance movement so that students move in healthy ways.  Though our teachers set high expectations for class structure, etiquette, and responsibility that will carry with them throughout their lives, we also also provide opportunities to allow our students to let loose and explore their own creative style .

Every year the students of Civic Dance Center put on two productions: a “Nutcracker and Winter Showcase” in December and a “Summer Showcase” in June.  All students who take classes are invited to participate in these performances.  The best time for new students to sign-up for dance classes are at the beginning of each season- Fall/Winter Season runs Labor Day through Christmas, Winter/Spring Season runs January 1st through the 2nd week of June, and Summer Season runs for two months during the summer.

As Artistic Director and Owner of Civic Dance Center, my goal is to reach each student through the light of instruction, as I recognize my responsibilities in helping students reach his or her fullest potential in the dance classroom and onstage. I feel blessed with the chance to enlighten and liberate each student through dance and movement.

  • Our Purpose is to facilitate the promotion of the Arts by way of Civic Dance Center throughout the community in the fields of fundraising, advertising, and education.
  • Our Goals are to bring dance, theater quality productions and special performances to the community and schools.
  • Our Desire is to serve others with integrity and morality, leading by example and remaining above reproach.
  • Our Mission Statement/Belief – Being a dancer is not only a physical activity – it is a state of mind. The longer one studies, the more each of the attributes is developed. The gifts of ballet training forever enrich who we are and remain with us throughout our lives.

Hope to see you soon!

Dancingly Yours,

Ms. Natalie
